100 New Jobs in Shamokin

100 New Jobs in Shamokin - Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 04:47AM EST

Hit movies like Avatar are going 3-D and changing the theater experience. A Northumberland County business hopes to cash in on that trend and create jobs. It will start making 3-D movie glasses. 3-D Global Glasses and D-E Associates will make them out of a building on 5th street in Shamokin. David Fasold of Coal Township just applied for a job here and says the plant will provide much needed jobs. "I mean, there's places closing up left and right and nobody is hiring. I've been out of work for almost two years now, said Fasold. Fasold is applying for one of about 100 jobs at the plant. The success of movies which can be watched in 3-D, like Avatar, is opening doors for companies like this. 3-D Global Glasses co-owner Kirk Lysek says making the frames and lenses in this area was a perfect fit. "We chose it because of the work ethic. The fact that it was a depressed area, we were able to bring jobs into this market and because they had the drive and determination to get to the production levels we need to be at," said Lysek. Once the plant is up and running they hope to churn out about 250 thousand of these glasses by April. By early next year, 1.5 million will be made each month. The owners tell us production is scheduled to start Monday.
