Montgomery, Lycoming County-

They hit the links in central Pennsylvania Friday to benefit the Williamsport YMCA.

A light drizzle couldn’t keep these 24 teams off the fairways and greens at the White Deer Golf Course.

With every drive, chip, and putt, golfers here did their part to raise some cash for the Y.

Executive Director Chad Eberhart explained, “All the money raised today will actually go toward our youth scholarship fund, which helps us to be able to subsidize youth and families that can’t afford our full fees.”

This is the 13th year for the YMCA tournament.

Golfers also tried their hand at several contests along the way like longest drive and closest to the pin.

For these golfers it’s a chance to give back to charity while playing the game they love. And YMCA officials say that’s exactly what makes the tournament so appealing.

Eberhart added, “Rather than just making a one-time donation to the Y, this is going to give people the chance to say, ‘Ok, I’m going to make a donation to the Y, but I get to benefit and come out and enjoy the nice day at White Deer Golf Course.’”

YMCA officials say the event couldn’t happen without generous assistance from sponsors. They also organized raffles and a silent auction to boost proceeds at the event.

The Williamsport YMCA has been helping to build strong kids, families, and communities for 142 years.
