OLYPHANT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY
Cinram Corporation in Olyphant has announced the lay off of approximately 200 employees. The company, which manufactures pre-recorded DVDs, audio CDs, andD-ROMs, said the decision was in response to an anticipated decline in work volumes.
Mark Underwood of Dalton has worked at Cinram for nearly 24 years. He said he was in the factory's cafeteria Wednesday morning when his boss called him into a meeting with another group of workers. Underwood said they were told that all of their jobs were being eliminated immediately. Underwood said that everyone's name was placed on a call back list.
According to a corporate news release all of the laid off employees will receive outplacement services.
It's the largest lay off at Cinram in Lackawanna County since 2007 when 328 employees were cut. At that time Cinram was transferring its warehouse and distribution operations to plants in Tennessee and Illinois.
