HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- Nearly one year before the State Health Department offices here were broken into another state office was ransacked and the very same concerns were raised about possible identity theft. The Driver’s License Center was broken into and confidential information was stolen. That crime is still unsolved.

WBRE News on the scene on November 29, 2006 in Hanover Township. State Police investigators were looking into that break-in and burglary. The bad guys stole computers and printers along with personal information. And they were even able to disarm the building’s security system.

"From the first day of this investigation, investigators believed this was possibly an inside job and that the information stolen here could be used for other crimes," said State Police Trooper Marty Connors.

Investigators say while it’s been quiet in the public eye that is not the case behind the scenes. “There's been dozens of interviews conducted, actually there have been several search warrants that have been carried out also several arrests, not connected to stolen items from the licensing center but there has been a lot of information that has been gathered. It’s still in the forefront of investigators mind not going to stop until justice is served."

Troopers believe the stolen items are being used to create false I.D.'s or Driver’s Licenses, but so far there have been no Identity Theft crimes reported. "We have seen licenses, false licenses, but not ones that were provided by that equipment."

The tips have lead to arrests of people involved in other alleged crimes, but so far the culprits in the D.M.V. break-in are still out there.
