3 Dead, Including Teenager, in 4 Luzerne Co. Crashes - Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 04:09AM EST

LUZERNE COUNTY - Three people were killed, and two other hospitalized in four crashes throughout Luzerne County on Tuesday.

Police say Joel Wallen, 15, Wilkes-Barre, was walking along the Cross Valley Expressway. when he was struck and killed around 7:00 P. M.

State troopers say a pickup truck hit the boy in the northbound lanes near the Wilkes-Barre Exit. The impact sent the victim over the concrete divider into the opposite lanes.

So far no charges have been filed. State Police at Wyoming are asking anyone with information to contact their barracks at (570) 697-2000.

Near Hazleton, a Berwick man was killed in a motorcycle crash. It happened on Rt. 940 in Hazle Township Tuesday night. State police say Tony Mchenry Jr., 20, crashed into a tree. Mchenry was pronounced dead at the scene.

A medical problem caused a wreck on Route 93 in Conyngham Tuesday afternoon. Police say the driver of a tractor trailer, Frederick Wolf, 56, Lebanon, drove through the parking lot at Conyngham Builders and slammed into a parked vehicle. The truck then went into the woods. The driver died from a medical condition and not from the crash.

And a fourth accident may have been caused when a wheel flew off an SUV Tuesday afternoon. It happened on the Cross Valley Expressway in Kingston. The driver lost control and drove into the path of another vehicle. Both rolled over. Two people in the SUV that lost a wheel were taken to the hospital. There's no word on their conditions.
