Bloomsburg, Columbia County-

The thunderous roar of the 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals has rolled into Columbia County once again.

Shiny paint jobs, oversized tires, and powerful engines are all on display at the 22nd annual Jamboree at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds this weekend.

Thousands of 4x4 enthusiasts from near and far are putting their best foot forward, showing off the years of hard work and money they’ve put into these beautiful machines.

Pamela Campbell, of Shamokin, said, “I just enjoy it. It’s something different, out-of-the-ordinary.”

The monster truck races are always a huge hit here. Jim Koehler compares driving his Avenger truck to a day at the amusement park.

Koehler laughed, “We got the tilt-a-whirl, the roller coasters, the drop off rides, the ones that shoot you straight up in the air, the bungee jumps, everything wrapped up into one. So it’s like an amusement park on wheels.”

Fans can even hop in for a ride in one of these monsters, and Koehler says the fans are what it’s all about.

He added, “They treat us like superheroes and we’re just ordinary guys. But the fact that the fans look up to us, it is the most awesome feeling ever to have that rush, to know that they’re out there and they’re watching. It’s awesome!”

There’s also plenty more to see here with the mud drag races and show-and-shine competition.

Show entrants we spoke with say their favorite part of the 4-Wheel Jamboree is reuniting with the people who come to check out the event here every year.

Gil Petraskie, of Shamokin, explained, “We have friends that come up from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, we all gather here. We met the people several years ago and it’s got to be at least 10 years that we’ve all been gathering here together.”

And as Petraskie puts the final polish on his 1972 Chevy Blazer, he has some advice for everyone watching. “Come out, it’s a great time,” he smiled.

All the action at the 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals runs through Sunday afternoon at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.

Tickets are available at the gate.
