Getting an annual mammogram is easier than ever thanks to grants provided to one local community hospital.
That's the message at the 6th annual Tell-A-Friend Mammathon. It was held Wednesday at the Susquehanna Valley Mall near Selinsgrove.
About 50 volunteers manned the phone lines to encourage women over 40 to register for a mammogram at Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.
Andrea Bertram, Director of Evangelical Hospital's Center for Breast Health, noted, "The thing about breast cancer is that it's very curable, and the earlier we detect it, the more options a woman has. And it's just a few minutes out of your life."
Last year's event persuaded more than 700 women in central PA to schedule the screening. | | |
