KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- Seven men are charged with running a Wilkes-Barre area drug ring. Police say a 27-year-old Kingston man is the ringleader.

The investigation is called "Operation Bad News." Detectives say Robert Bovolick of Kingston was the ring leader and sold more than 1.5 million dollars of pot. That’s more than 300 pounds on the street since 2002. He made nearly $6,000 a week.

Bovolick was arraigned Wednesday morning. Investigators say he worked with 7 other people from around the area to sell large amounts of marijuana on the streets of Luzerne County. Police say he traveled to Philadelphia on a weekly basis to buy the pot.

The investigation began when state agents say he made extravagant purchases which he could not afford on his salary. Bovolick earned about $26,000 a year working at the Anthracite Newsstand, which his family owns. However investigators say the Anthracite Newsstand was not involved in this drug operation.

They say he bought a Hummer 2 and at least 10 houses in the Wilkes-Barre area. Two of those homes have been seized by the Attorney General's office.

The 6 other members of that drug ring were picked up in other parts of the area. They are locked up also.
