POTTSVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY -- Two thousand children here will have presents to open and hot meals to eat on Christmas, thanks to volunteers.
"I don't know if my daughter would've been able to have a Christmas without help from these people," said Kelli Francis of St. Clair. "It means so much. I'm tearing up. It means a lot to me especially."
Francis is one of about 700 parents in Schuylkill County getting some help this Christmas.
"That really warms my heart, that I can do something special for someone and maybe make a difference in their life," said Capt. Tammy Hench of the Salvation Army of Pottsville
The Salvation Army, Life Centre Foursquare Church, and Toys for Tots programs have collected donations to give to these families in need. They helped about 570 families last year. This year, they'll come close to 700. About 170 more were on a wait list.
"We believe if we come together, we'll get through this time together, not only as a community, but as a nation," said the church pastor, Ed Babcock. "And that's what we think Jesus would do." | |
