WHITE DEER, UNION COUNTY- A number of emergency crews responded to Allenwood Federal Prison Monday evening after an incident inside the prison walls.

After remaining tight-lipped throughout the evening, prison officials released a short statement with a few details on the incident.

They say around 5:15 Monday evening a fight broke out between a number of inmates. The prison was immediately placed in lockdown and corrections officers took control of the situation.

No prison workers were injured however 8 inmates were taken to local hospitals to be treated. There is no word on their condition.

Prison officials have contacted the FBI and an investigation is ongoing.

Allenwood is a medium security federal penitentiary.
