EAST STROUDSBURG - An eight year old boy caused the fire that killed two people in East Stroudsburg Thursday.
Officers told WBRE News the boy originally told them a baseboard heater caught his blanket on fire. Upon further questioning the boy admitted he was playing with a cigarette lighter.

No charges will be filed but officers will encourage the boy to seek counseling.

The fire started at a duplex on Analomink Street at about 9a.m. Thursday. by noon officials confirmed two people died. They are 25 year old Takiea Jackson of Marshalls Creek and 22 year old Jeff Dailey, an East Stroudsburg University Student.

Jeff is the second ESU student to die tragically this week. Another student, Kathleen Novak was killed in a car crash Sunday.

To help students cope with the disasters, university officials invited them to gather at the Beers Lecture Hall Friday afternoon.

There were more tears than words at the gathering. The university invited students to share their memories with each other. For a few minutes, only sniffles punctuated the silence.

Eventually students shared their grief and their stories about Jeff Daily. The speakers described Jeff as a happy guy who had two loves, basketball and family. They encouraged everyone to savor every moment - just like Jeff did.

The campus and community will continue to honor two ESU Warriors whose battles ended too soon.

The university plans to have an official memorial service for Novak and Dailey after officials speak with both of their families.

If you would like to help the fire victims you can.

To help the Howell family whose home was destroyed, drop off donations at Advanced Door Technologies on Courtland Street in East Stroudsburg between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
