HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- A 9-1-1 supervisor confirmed Friday night that the Computer Assisted Dispatch System (CAD) malfunctioned and was out of service for more than four hours.

The outage was first reported at 3:45 p. m. County Manager Doug Pape confirmed the information, but said of the 300 calls taken during the time frame, all were handled properly. Pape said dispatch response was slowed because of the computer crash. It's unknown what caused the crash.

A supervisor said outages have happened before, but not one has lasted as long as this one. We're told if the system crashes, it's normally down for 15 minutes.

Pape said the county is in the process of selecting a replacement system. A 9-1-1 operations source said that needs to happen sooner than later.
