AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY- Winter's not going quietly as the first week of March arrives. A storm that surprised the south before heading northeast is causing travel headaches in parts of our region.
At least 8 flights were canceled or delayed at the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre International airport Monday morning.
In the Poconos, some commuters didn't wake up in the heart of the snowstorm, but they are driving there. Commuters like Jean Duncan of Blakeslee. She's driving to her new job in Bethlehem. "I'm not looking forward. It's a new job so I have to try and make it, you know, I just started it last Tuesday so I have to try and make it as close as possible," she said.
The Poconos will be the hardest hit in our area with possibly six inches of snow. No big deal says Tara Bending of White Haven. Bending says, "It's usual weather, it's nothing. It's this time of the year so it doesn't freak me out."
Bending is driving to Lake Wallenpaupak. That's just one area school district closed because of the snow storm.
One driver heading into the brunt of the storm and taking people with him is Julio Avila. He drives a Martz bus route from Wilkes-Barre to New York City.
On Monday, he expects a light load. "A lot of them use their sick days for a day like today so I'm expecting half a bus today," says Avila.
