A Look at the Major Mayoral Races - Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 10:45PM EST
Some tight mayoral races took place on Tuesday.
In Pittston Incumbent Mayor Joseph Keating was defeated in the Republican primary. He was defeated by 32-year-old Jason Klush.
The hotly contested Democratic primary for Jim Thorpe mayor was won by Jeremy Melber by just 26 votes over Dennis McGinley, Jr. On the Republican side Michael Sofranko easily defeated "Pup the Mailman."
In Shamokin George Rozinskie, Jr. won the Democratic nod and will face Republican Betsy Richardson in November.
In Sunbury David Persing won the Republican Primary and will face Scott Charles Johnson in November.
In Luzerne County, Incumbent Jim Haggerty is seeking a fourth term as Mayor of Kingston and easily won the Republican nomination. On the Democratic side 72-year-old Stephen Radzinski won and will face Haggerty in the fall.
And finally in Nanticoke current councilman Joseph Dougherty won with 55% of the vote on the Democratic side. No Republicans ran. | |
