Brodheadsville, Monroe County - Thieves broke into an area library twice and it was all caught on camera. The criminals took money the library earns from late fees and services like faxing.

The thieves broke into the Western Pocono Community library twice in the past month. "We do a lot for the public and we're disappointed that this happens in return," said Library Director Carol Kern.

Both times the thieves showed up at about four in the morning. In all they got away with about $500.

"They're taking the little bit of money the Library has and it's awful," said Theresa Moore of effort.

The thieves first broke in on October 8th. They struck again on Thursday.

"Both are the same in and out within three and a half minutes," said Kern.

During the first break in the crooks reached up to a security camera and shook it so it disconnected from the security system. They may not have realized the library has more than a dozen cameras.

Kern said, "As far as security goes we can't do anything more than we've already done." She's not only angry, she's also sad. She explained, "If they said we need help, we'd guide them and tell them where to go. If they needed literacy help we'd do it for free."

People who use the library said they're furious. Moore visits once a week and she had a message for the crooks. She said, "They should go out and get jobs. Obviously they're stealing for drugs or something and they shouldn't be breaking into a library where everyone comes here for free."

The library staff isn't sure how it will make up the money but Kern does know she's moving the money hiding spot.

"It's upsetting because it's a waste of our time when we have more important things to be doing to serve the community," said Kern.
