SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY
More than 400 people, many of them veterans, turned out for the annual Armed Forces Week Luncheon in Scranton on Wednesday.
The featured speaker, Pennsylvania Air National Guard Col. Frank J. Sullivan, told the gathering that everyone ought to be involved in some form of public service. Col. Sullivan said he believes the country needs a mandatory two year service time for everyone from ages 18 through 20. The Col. said that service could include serving on city or borough councils, or working in municipal jobs or joining the armed forces.
Armed Forces Week features several events aimed at honoring those who serve the country. It includes a Military Parade in Scranton on Saturday, May 17th. That parade will be carried live on WYOU TV. | |
