SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY- Crews from ten different fire departments battled a blaze in Shamokin Township Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the east section of the former Allen Clark Poultry and Meats building on Irish Valley Road.

Stonington Fire Department Chief Kerry Yordy said the fire was started accidentally by a man who was cutting metal to be recycled. “They were in there taking out metal for recycling purposes. He was cutting metal and a spark got away from his cutting torch and caught some wood on fire" explained Chief Yordy.

No one was hurt in Wednesday morning's fire in Shamokin Township. We're told the owner of the building lives in Philadelphia.
