Accident Survivor Gives Back at Blood Drive - Friday, January 15, 2010 at 5:47PM EST

Lewisburg, Union County-

A blood drive in central Pennsylvania appears to have been quite a success Friday afternoon.

We stopped by the drive at Evangelical Hospital's Community Health Education Center in Lewisburg.

We found plenty of people lining up to donate the gift of life, including Eyewitness News reporter Jeremy Deebel. He spoke with one donor who truly understands the need for blood in our region.

Alan Griswold, of Selinsgrove, explained, "I actually had to take about 11 units in to come around from a severe accident. But since that time I've been working toward giving as much as I can. I'm approaching the 5-gallon mark."

Red Cross volunteers say they were well on their way to reaching their goal of collecting 78 units by mid-afternoon.
