BRODHEADSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY - When pets are spayed or neutered doctors say they are happier and healthier. The procedure also prevents animals from reproducing and contributing to over population. Despite the benefits, many people can't afford the procedures.

There is now an affordable place to get your pets spayed or neutered in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It can cost about half of what you might pay somewhere else. A group called the Eastern PA Animal Alliance recently opened a clinic in Brodheadsville. It's in the Burger King Plaza across from Pleasant Valley High School.

Veterinarian Lori Milot took a big pay cut to help animals there. As she helped four month old rescue kitten Lennon she said, "These guys don't have anybody, no owner, no veterinary care." The doctor also cares for family pets.

She started her Veterinary career in a private practice where she saw pampered pets everyday. Then she volunteered at a shelter and realized many animals weren't so lucky. She said, "It just gets to you, it just breaks your heart."

Milot saw the shelter overwhelmed with animals because too few pets are spayed and neutered. So she jointed the Eastern PA Animal Alliance along with George Kitchen and Barbara Loch.

Loch is the Clinic Coordinator. She said, "It's the best feeling in the world when you can help somebody."

Other generous pet lovers helped make the clinic possible. Someone donated the space. Another person gave the exam table and another donated the surgical light.

"You don't need buckets of money if you have good people to help you out," said Loch. Milot added, "I can't imagine doing anything else."

The groups location is temporary. It will have to find a new place soon. It's also raising money for a mobile spay/neuter van so the doctor can take her work on the road. For more information click .
