MOUNT POCONO, MONROE COUNTY - Pocono Area officials hope to welcome more corporate executives and big spenders thanks to an airport upgrade. They broke ground on a runway extension at the Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport this morning. The project will add about 1,000 feet to the runway. That means insurance companies will allow more corporate jets and military planes to land there.
George K. Strunk the Airport Authority Chairman said, "It changes everything. It brings this whole area from an economic development and an aviation perspective to the next level so it's just huge."
The project cost about $4 million. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation paid for half. The other half came from slot gaming revenue in Monroe County.
