Almanac Found in Berwick Auctioned for $470,000 - Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 6:07PM EST

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY- They may have to re-name Poor Richard's Almanac. One rare copy of the book found recently in Berwick sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction today.
The Berwick Historical Society found an original 1733 edition of Poor Richard's Almanac written by Benjamin Franklin. Today it sold at Sotheby's Auction House in New York for $470,000.

The buyer wants to remain anonymous. It may be the most anyone has ever paid for a book printed in America.

The Berwick Historical Society wants to use the money to restore the Jackson Foster Mansion, which is now Berwick City Hall.
