Annual Block Party in Bloomsburg

Annual Block Party in Bloomsburg - Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 04:01AM EST

Reported by: Eyewitness News
Saturday April 17 2010
BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY -- A new ordinance in Bloomsburg is not stopping college students from throwing the annual Block Party.

Eyewitness News checked out some of the partying going on Saturday afternoon in downtown Bloomsburg.

Changes to the existing ordinance require hosts of parties with more than 150 people to obtain a permit. No one obtained a permit before today's annual spring party.

A beefed-up police presence is on the lookout for problems and any violators of the 150 party guest limit. Bloomsburg Police Chief Leo Sokoloski said, "If they do exceed it they can expect the police to respond and the events will be dispersed and people will be cited and charged."

Bloom graduate Bridget Maenner said, "I think that's an awful rule and obviously no one is really following it."

Changes in the Bloomsburg ordinance means violators could face up to $600 in fines and 10-days in jail.
