CLARKS SUMMIT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- A local animal shelter is stocked with about 10,000 pounds in donated supplies thanks to a yearly effort.

Donations collected through the 5th Annual Pet Supply Drive were delivered Saturday to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter in Clarks Summit.

The 2-week effort rounded up everything from pet food and cleaning supplies to hundreds of dollars in checks and gift cards.

Businesses, schools and the community in general pitched in to help. Drive organizer Kevin Young said, "All around Lackawanna County we had 44 locations this year. They all did a tremendous job."

Griffin Pond Animal Shelter Volunteer Coordinator Janet Garvey said, "We're not funded by any county or government organization so it's all what the community gives to keep these animals fed and give them their toys, their litter."

The truckload of donated supplies is expected to meet many of the shelter's needs for about 6-months.
