((PLYMOUTH, Luzerne County) -
A family from Plymouth who's been faced with many trials and tribulations came home from vacation to find another setback. This time. A damaging dryer fire left part of their home in ruins.
10-year-old Zoe Lambert is about to have her 30th surgery. She suffers from Vaters Syndrome, a series of defects and abnormalities.
Early Sunday evening, the little girl and her family came home from North Carolina only to discover a dryer fire had damaged their home. It's the third one in Luzerne County over the past two weeks Johanna Lambert told Eyewitness News, “We had a great vacation. We had a wonderful ride home"
The Lamberts two week vacation in the Outer banks ended a little differently than expected, “I just feared something was wrong with my daughter, we knew she was here." As the Lambert's pulled into their Gould Street home in Plymouth, they saw boarded up windows and burned crumpled clothes. Johanna Lambert stated, "We screamed we cried, we jumped up and down, it was a panic."
Turns out, the family's two-year-old dryer caught fire in the kitchen. This, after Johanna's daughter, who was home at the time threw some clothes in and turned it on. Firefighters call it an accident. They blame it on clogged tubing connecting the vent. Now the Lambert's are left picking up the pieces.
Johanna Lambert added, "I did a lot of cooking in that kitchen and it came out good. Now, I think the kitchen's a complete loss. Smoke damage to whole house; don't know what's usable and what needs to be cleaned.” And ten-year-old Zoe can't even get back into her bedroom.
She has Vaters Syndrome and only one lung, and can't breathe in the smoke. She's about to have her 30th surgery. When asked if there was glass everywhere right?” Zoe Lambert responded, “Yeah." They still had a great vacation. What did you did - went swimming. And I got hit by a couple of waves.
If you're wondering why, the Lambert's daughter, Zoe's Mom, Arlene didn't tell them what happened until they got home. It's because Zoe's Grandfather suffers from congestive heart failure and he was the one driving everyone back late Sunday afternoon, hours after it happened. By the way, firefighters want to remind everyone to clean out the lint from the hose in your dryer - as well as the actual lint basket. | |
