FREELAND, LUZERNE COUNTY -- Sinkhole repairs mean a detour for drivers today in lower Luzerne County.

The work is happening in Freeland on Carbon Street at the intersection with Route 940. Eyewitness News found PennDOT and borough workers on the scene this morning.

An approximately 8-feet wide by 4-feet deep hole opened up yesterday. Crews had to use a camera to put into the sinkhole and make sure there's no underground utility damage before filling it.

The work leaves Carbon Street shut down although Route 940 itself will remain open. PennDOT recommends taking an alternate route around the Freeland work site.
