Another Wintry Mix Hits Area

Another Wintry Mix Hits Area - Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 4:20PM EST

LUZERNE COUNTY -- Before sunrise, plow drivers worked to make sure roads were clear for those heading to school or work. Troopers kept an eye on the travelers.

Our crew was outside dealing with the harsh weather as well and made a plea for coffee. Jerry Hoeppner came through.

"Well, I go by here every day for work, so I figured you gotta have coffee, you gotta have coffee," said Hoeppner, who works in Scranton.

"After 41 years of driving through the winter, I guess it's a little tedious by now," he added.

We also caught up with Wilkes University's maintenance employees.

"It started out okay, but it's changed over to sleet," said Jeff Davis. "It's getting slippery and messy."

It takes between 20 and 25 workers to keep the university clear.

"A lot of guys do come in early around 4 or 5 in the morning," added Davis," and we stay until it's finished.

He says his only concern is the drive home, uphill to Larksville.
