SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Students at the University of Scranton say they were shocked by news of the campus killings at Northern Illinois University. But most say they are confident in their security on campus in Scranton.
Casey Shine is a student at the University of Scranton and feels his school security is very good, but adds, "You can never predict what's going to happen."
Student Tara Cormicin agreed, "I feel safe here. We've always got security around."
The University of Scranton, like many other colleges and universities, uses a text message system to alert students to problems on or off campus.
Campus Critical Instance Team Chairman Dr. Vince Carilla said the first alert to problems often involves students, teachers or other workers who see something 'unusual' and now know enough to report it as soon as possible.
