Army Depot Memorial Day Remembrance - Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 04:01AM EST

TOBYHANNA, MONROE COUNTY - While many of us are thinking about a three day weekend, full of back yard barbecues and fun, some people want to make sure we all remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.

The Tobyhanna Army Depot held a ceremony to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Hundreds of Army Depot employees gathered to say thank you.

They honored our flag and the people who fought for it. They paused for prayer and remembered the fallen.

Employees laid three wreaths. One honored those who died fighting. One was for all veterans. The final wreath honored depot employees who have died in the past year. Electronics Mechanic Leslie Sharp said,"They may not be veterans but they are part of the Tobyhanna family and their role in the mission of supporting our war fighters is no less important."

Participants like Sergeant Benedict Taylor said events like this are important. He served a year in Iraq. He said,"You really start to think back on the holidays you know what you're really fighting for. And that's the freedoms of your family, your immediate family., your friends, their friends, their family."

Every one we talked to agreed - we should honor our freedom fighters more than just one day a year because they fight for us every day of the year. Taylor said,"It doesn't matter if it's Memorial Day or it's Independence Day. I'm proud to wear the uniform every day of the week."
