SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The owner of an arson damaged business in downtown Scranton is planning to renovate and reopen!
Tom Moran's Coney Island Texas Lunch was the target of an arsonist on April 3rd and was heavily damaged in the blaze. Work crews have been busy removing everything from fire damaged walls to booths and cooking equipment.
The next step involves treating the inside of the structure to remove any lasting smoke odors. Moran then plans to rebuild the restaurant just as it was when it opened over 90 years ago.
Some of the work must await the construction of a new roof. Moran was in the process of removing the top two floors of his building when the fire happened. The upper floors had been deteriorating for several years. But their removal left retail space of the first floor uncovered.
Renovations to the restaurant area will begin as soon as a temporary roof is put in place. Moran hopes to reopen in time for the July 4th Holiday.
The arsonist who torched the restaurant is still at large. Moran has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the person or persons responsible for setting the fire.
