WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY -- Erin Colleen Burke wasn't supposed to be a Christmas present for her parents, Becky and Bill of Meshoppen. Becky's due date was two weeks ago, and she was induced on Tuesday.

"They had us come in for a scheduled induction, just kind of worked out that way, and here we are Christmas morning," said Becky.

Erin was born less than one hour into Christmas day. Labor lasted more than 24 hours.

"Just a day," Bill joked.

Both say they had to adjust to being in the hospital for Christmas.

"At first, it was kind of upsetting because it meant we were away from the other girls for Christmas morning, but they've been really good about it," added Becky.

Big sisters Katie and Breanna are 11 and 9 years old. Dad's looking for a refresher course.

"I'm hoping it's kind of a walk in the park," said Bill. "Once you do it, you know how to do it."

The parents tell us they already have some concern that Baby Erin will not be happy about sharing her birthday with Christmas.

"It kind of stinks for her," laughed Becky. "She's going to get ripped off now."

"Maybe we'll do something Christmas Eve for her and separate it a little bit," said Bill.

Becky's mom's birthday is the 27th. "Maybe they'll get less gifts together," they joked.

But all joking aside, the Burkes say Erin was the best Christmas gift.

"I think once you get over the initial shock of being in the hospital for Christmas and things like that, it makes it much, much easier," Becky said. "And really a special time."
