NBC and CBS News projected Barack Obama to be the winner in the 2008 presidential election at 11:00 P. M. Eastern Time Tuesday night.
Speaking from McCain Campaign Headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, Senator John McCain offered his congratulations to Barack Obama, freshman senator from Illinois.
At 11:00 p. m. (EST), several independent media outlets, including CBS News, NBC News, CNN and Fox News, projected Barack Obama to be the winner in the 2008 presidential election.
Senator Obama, the 47 year-old first-term senator, will be the 44th President of the United States, and the first African-American to hold the nation's highest office.
At 11:31 p. m, NBC News projected Senator Obama to have won 333 electoral votes to Senator McCain's 156, with the addition of victories in California, Oregon and Washington.
Senator Obama spoke from his rally in Chicago to a huge crowd of supporters.
