HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY -- The political season is underway in Northeastern Pennsylvania and today Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta announced he will run for Congress in 2010.

Barletta ran against Congressman Paul Kanjorski twice. He lost both times in 2002 and 2008. But most political observers agree he presented a tough challenge to the incumbent.

Barletta came to national prominence in 2006 with his efforts to fight illegal immigration. The controversial law is now tied up in the courts.

Barletta believes that many people are not happy with the policies of President Barack Obama and the Democratic majority.
