Baseball attack verdict

Baseball attack verdict - Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 5:46PM EST

Thursday, Jun 18, 2009 @ 05:46pm EST

A jury came back with a guilty verdict in a brutal baseball bat attack case.

Ron Clark of Scranton beat his ex-girlfriend Leandra Portonova several times with a bat.

Police say Clark hit Portanova more than 50 times and then swung at her son.

He showed no emotion as the verdict was read in Lackawanna County court.

Lackawanna County deputy district attorney Gene Riccardo talked to us about Portanova’s reaction.

"She's very pleased. She's actually overwhelmed. It's been a long year and a half and unfortunately for her she's going to always suffer scars of this brutal attack against her," says Riccardo.

A jury found Clark was also accused of hitting Portonova's 5 year old as well.

A jury found him not guilty for that charge.

Riccardo says the couple had a history of domestic violence.

“This wasn't the only crime that he committed against her. She allowed him to get back into her life and it almost resulted in a lot of serious injuries. So we're very happy justice was served today," says Riccardo.

Clark is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Police said Clark stole Portanova's debit card after the beating.

The jury found him not guilty of that charge.
