Bear Creek Ambulance Service in Jeopardy
Bear Creek Ambulance Service in Jeopardy - Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 9:25PM EST
BEAR CREEK, LUZERNE COUNTY- The fate of an ambulance company in Luzerne County is now headed to court. The Bear Creek-Buck Township Ambulance Company says it is fighting for its survival.
They say it all has to do with politics. The volunteers who run the service say they are being forced out. The Lions Club owns the ambulance and insists they just want what's best for people who live in the Bear Creek area.
The volunteers who man the Bear Creek-Buck Township ambulance say response time would be much longer if they are closed down. Some say if there was a vote Wednesday it would shut down and work with nearby ambulance and medic services. The ambulance officers filed a court injunction stopping the lions vote.
The Lions Club president told us, they want to have the best ambulance service possible, but he fears if they turn over the operation to the volunteers it will become a paid service that would impact taxpayers financially. | |
