POCONO PINES - Some travel related businesses worry the high gas prices could lead to a slow summer season so a few Pocono resorts and hotels have come up with ways to bring in customers.

When Moe DeSantis checked out of a bed and breakfast in the Poconos, the owner handed him money.

Merrily Baxter owns the Mountaintop lodge in Pocono Pines. She put a gas promotion on line to convince people to travel even though gas prices are high.

She said, "It's really taken a toll on everybody. In every aspect."

For each night guests stay, she gives them ten dollars.

She said, "As soon as we put it up, we started getting calls."

DeSantis made one of those calls. He said, "With gas prices now-a-day it helps. Any little bit with gas helps."

He and his girlfriend came from New York. They drove about two hours and spent almost $80 to fill up.

The said the Poconos is the perfect spot for them because it's far from New York, but not too far.

Linda Christie said, "You need to get away. You need to have time for yourselves."

DeSantis added, "With all the stress and everything now a days you have to get away - and you don't want to go too far."

Pocono resort owners hope more visitors who want to vacation but don't want to spend a fortune on gas, keep them busy this summer.

The Mountaintop Lodge owner said if the promotion goes well this weekend, she will consider extending it through the summer.
