VAN NUYS, CALIFORNIA—“The Office” wraps its fifth season on NBC and WBRE Thursday night. The Emmy-winning sitcom has developed an almost cult following. And tonight Eyewitness News takes you behind the scenes. Our Jeff Chirico back from California with a series you'll only see on WBRE.

I sat down with the cast to talk about life before Dunder Mifflin and what makes the show such a hit.

It's the view you don't get. Cameras crammed into the most recognizable office in America. On this day, the dysfunctional Dunder Mifflin staff shoots one of this season's final episodes. Kate Flannery says “I think this season has been the best. And I'm not saying that because I've talked more than I ever had."

Philadelphia-native Kate Flannery was a relative unknown until landing the role of Meredith Palmer. “A lot of us are old and grateful and keeps us more real." Brian Baumgartner says “my life is completely different than it was before." I sat down with the cast and joked about old office jobs they held. Baumgartner worked for an attorney. Baumgartner joked “his personality was a lot like you. Kinda small guy. Napoleon complex and didn't like the fact that I was taller than him."

Rocker Creed Bratton didn't have bosses but “I had groupies during the sixties and I was signing breasts. I still do that, except it is more botched divorcees." So what's the key to the show's success? Ed Helms who plays Andy Bernard" "I think the writers and creators of the show tapped into something that's pretty universal --frustration with the mundane." Leslie David Baker, who plays Stanley Hudson, says “everybody who watched the show can identify with the characters on the show."

Through blogging and social networks, those characters are accessible to fans like never before. Flannery says "we were encouraged to talk to fans while shooting in the middle of the scene pretending to do office work. I think that's unusual. I think we made an instant connection because of that. A connection that makes The Office a hit on air and online.
