SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - "This is a celebration, we're happy to do this for you," said Patrick Quinn at Molly's Cozy Corner in Scranton Saturday afternoon. The celebration happened just one month after devastation.
Lisa Jezorwski and her daughter, Stephanie Taylor, were two of 17 people forced from their homes by fire in May.
They lost everything.
"Just the little things you don't think about that you lose in a fire; clothing, supplies, everything just everything," Jezorwski said.
Everything, but the support of friends and family. They wasted no time striking up the band and auctioning off gifts to get the girls back on their feet.
"The initial shock was horrible," Stephanie Taylor said. She was home with her 3-year-old daughter when the fire broke out. She carried her daughter from their second-floor apartment to safety.
"Every other day, she might mention something about the fire, but I tell her there's progress and we're going be all right," Taylor said.
"I just couldn't even in words express my thankfulness I have for them [friends] and what they've done," Jezorwski said.
Organizers say that's what friends are for.
"It means you help people when they need help. Period," said Carolyn Tugend. | |
