Benton mourns the loss of two teens

Benton mourns the loss of two teens - Monday, July 28, 2008 at 4:42PM EST

A Columbia County town is mourning the deaths of two teen-agers.

17-year-old Brian O'handley and 18-year-old Jeremiah Cedeno, both of Benton , died last night in Benton Township .

Tony Carl wrestled with Cedeno at Benton Area High School .

He says, "He was always keeping me in a good mood and like he was always there for me through thick and thin.”

Cedeno would have been a junior, but his life was cut short Sunday night.

He was riding in a car with O'handley, when it ran off the road, into a tree here on Waller Road .

Friend Joe Klem of Benton says this about Cedeno, "He was real nice, good heart.”

We asked Klem, “is it hard today? Put it into words.”

Klem said, “He was a real good kid."

A good kid is also how the Benton Area High School principal Joseph Goode describes Brian O'handley.

Goode says he was, "A popular kid, they were good friends. They had a very close knit circle of friends, but a very very likeable young man. Again, full of life, full of energy. To see two young lives like that end is a real tragedy."

Goode says the accident is on the mind of many here in Benton .

"That's just Benton . Everybody knows everybody else. And it's going to be a loss for everybody," says Goode.

The high school had grief counselors on hand all day, to help people cope with that loss.

As of Monday afternoon, state police weren’t commenting on the crashes cause.
