Danville, Montour County-

It's a rite of passage for almost all high school kids. And now the big dance is coming back to Danville.

You could argue that the Danville Municipal Building ballroom has never looked quite so sharp. Members of the Danville High School junior class are decking the halls for this year's prom. The theme is "All That Jazz."

And students here say they couldn't be happier to be back home. Junior Class President Rose McKinley explained, "The past few years it's been at Bloomsburg and we just felt that obviously the Danville Prom should be in Danville."

While they appreciate the university hosting recent proms, students jumped at the opportunity to bring the big dance back to Danville. And the municipal building ballroom was the perfect fit.

McKinley has fond memories of watching her older brothers attend proms right here in town. She says wanted the same experience for her friends. "I think we wanted that feel back again. The Danville community coming out and having a good time together and then just the high schoolers having fun afterward," McKinley added.

Junior Class Treasurer Nathaniel Kronenwetter noted, "It's really exciting that it's here and people can come down Mill Street and watch us. I just think it's really exciting for the community and us as a class."

Students here have spent countless hours decorating for the perfect prom celebration. After all, the goal is to out-do the previous class's big party. From personalized music notes, to cardboard cutouts, colored lights, balloons and more, it's all in place and ready for the big celebration.

"That's our main goal is to impress people. And I think we definitely have with this room. And I think it's really exciting to know that it's going to be here and we did it," Kronenwetter said.

Nearly 250 students went to last year's prom, which was held in Bloomsburg. Organizers expect nearly 400 students to attend this year's event.
