Big Ski Weekend for the Poconos
Big Ski Weekend for the Poconos - Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 6:47PM EST
TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY- A sea of skiers filled the slopes at Camelback in Tannersville Sunday afternoon. From the looks of it, the weak economy didn't keep many people home.
Public Relations Manager Ricky Durst said, “It’s a big week for us. It’s one that we gear up for. It’s one that we really look forward to."
Beth Lukas and her family came all the way from Connecticut to take trips down the mountain. “The size of the mountain is much better than anything we have in Connecticut. It’s family friendly," she says.
With her kids off from school, Lukas says it was the perfect time to get away. “We planned around school break. We skied yesterday, today and tomorrow," she added.
All 34 trails at Camelback are currently open. Despite the economy, many are here for the first time. Michael Prilutsky of Edison, New Jersey said, “It’s an hour and a-half from home. The kids are out training. I'm here with the wife. It’s close."
Camelback managers say this year could be one of the best yet. The season started early with a cold snap and they hope it continues. “It’s been a very strong year for us. We're very thankful for that. We've very thankful to everyone that’s come out. We hope this weekend stays strong and we finish up on a strong note as well," added Durst. | |
