Tuesday, Mar 18, 2008 @04:07pm EST

Former president Bill Clinton will stop in our region tomorrow to help his wife campaign for the white house.

Mr. Clinton's first stop is Wilkes-Barre.

Mayor Tom Leighton says the city is ready for former president bill Clinton's visit

"We'll be ready for the crowd, we'll be ready for the president. We'll make sure he gets in and out very safely."

Clinton is scheduled to speak at Coughlin high school at 3:45 Wednesday afternoon.

Preparations will start early.

The secret service will start sweeping the building at about 10 a-m.

It's the first time a president, former or sitting, will visit a Wilkes-Barre high school.

Superintendent Dr. Jeff Namey says he's glad Clinton chose Coughlin.

Namey says, "We're very pleased and we're actually honored that former president Clinton will be here on behalf of his wife."

This isn't Bill Clinton's first trip to Wilkes-Barre,

Back in 1996, he visited Kings College, announcing federal flood aid, something Mayor Leighton remembers well.

He says, "Thankfully, looking back over the last couple of years, he basically saved the Wyoming Valley from major destruction from flooding."

But now the former president is helping senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

Bill Clinton will speak in Coughlin's gym, which can hold up to about 18 hundred people.

If you plan on watching Bill Clinton at Coughlin, don't plan on parking on North Washington.

Most spots will be blocked off from Union down to Market Street."

Clinton's speech is called Solutions for America.

In previous speeches, Clinton has focused on creating a quality education system.

Its one issue he might address in his big visit to the diamond city.

President Clinton's speech is open to the public tomorrow and the event is free.
