LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- With big names like Chris Doherty and Jim Wansacz in the race for Bob Mellow's state senate seat, few expected John Blake to emerge victorious.

But that he did, and he'll face Republican winner Frank Scavo in November in the NEPA's 22nd State Senate District.

Blake beat businessman Charles Volpe by just over 700 votes. Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty finished 3rd about 1,500 votes back.
