CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The city of Carbondale is using a 'Blight Sweep Team' to check for problem properties in local neighborhoods. The team made up of city code inspectors and police officers is looking for obvious problems such as overgrown weeds or trash left around homes and yards. Any such problems gives the team access to the property where often additional problems are discovered. The first sweep conducted on July 25th resulted in 25 citations. Residents are given 10 days to correct whatever problems are discovered. Carbondale Mayor Justin Taylor said the effort is being made to improve neighborhoods throughout the city. The team will be visiting various neighborhoods every other week. Mayor Taylor says he hopes to have checked all areas of the city by the end of this summer.
