Blood Drive Continues Legacy of State Senator

Blood Drive Continues Legacy of State Senator - Monday, January 5, 2009 at 10:56PM EST

MAHANOY CITY, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY- People rolled up their sleeves to continue the legacy of a state senator. Mahanoy Area High School sponsored a blood drive in honor of Senator James Rhoades, who died in a car crash in October.

Organizers tell us the drive Tuesday made well over its goal for donations. Jim Rhoades, Jr. said, “He'd be thrilled. Mahanoy Area means a lot to our father. Before he was a senator, he was an educator, a coach, a teacher.”

Ali Hobbs added, “It's been heartwarming to see so many people in our community come out and remember my dad again and give back to their community. That's really what my dad was about."
