Bloomsburg Fire Injures Two - Friday, May 22, 2009 at 6:36PM EST
BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY -- Bloomsburg Fire Chief Hugh Gross says two people were taken to the Lehigh Valley Medical center after getting burned and inhaling smoke during a fire around 3am. It happened at an apartment building on Third and Scott Streets.
Gross says the woman's name is Lynn Alum, but the man wasn't identified as of Friday afternoon. He adds Alum had first and second degree burns, while the man suffered from smoke inhalation.
Jim Davis lived in the downstairs apartment and was sleeping when he heard commotion and went outside to make sure everything was okay.
"Here I come out to see flames coming out the window, so I darted back in the house to make sure my daughter got out safely and my friend that was staying with me," said Davis. "I'm grateful just to have my daughter. And one of the firemen went in and got my dog, and my dog is safe."
He has no idea where they'll go from here.
"I have no clue," said Davis. "But I know wherever God shuts a door, He also opens a window. He's got a plan, and I've just got to let him roll his plan out."
Davis is grateful commotion woke him up. He told us the apartment had no smoke detectors.
Fire Chief Gross tells Eyewitness News the fire started in the living room of the upstairs apartment near a couch. He says they don't know if candles or cigarettes were involved. Due to their injuries, the people in that apartment weren't yet interviewed. | |
