NEW MILFORD, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY -- School officials are being tight-lipped about the investigation, but a state police spokesperson confirms they're looking into allegations against a Blue Ridge School District teacher.
People living in the small community heard rumblings about the investigation.
"You hear it through the grapevine. And next thing you know, you have major explosions, Scranton, Montrose, here," said Jack Neal of New Milford. "I mean just because it's a little town doesn't mean it doesn't happen everywhere."
"It never happened when I went there," said Mary Donnelly, a Blue Ridge graduate.
State police say the teacher is accused of having inappropriate contact with a student. They're not saying what grade or subject the teacher instructs. They're also not saying how old the student is or whether the contact was physical, or via phone or internet.
An unidentified woman in the high school parking lot told us the teacher involved is a close friend and the allegations are bogus.
"The problem is, some people get accused, and they throw stones at them," said Neal. "And if they throw stones at them,
they're still marked."
Blue Ridge officials aren't saying if the teacher is still employed or on leave. Neal says parents should get a head's up so the rumor mill doesn't work overtime.
"Before any of this leaked out, they should've had an answer at hand," said Neal.
We've been told the teacher's name, but we're withholding it until, or unless, criminal charges are filed. | |
