KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- Wyoming Valley West School Board President Allen Bellas was missing in action at Wednesday evening's board meeting. Bellas two weeks ago reportedly admitted to a member of the redevelopment authority he was "in trouble" with federal investigators. Bellas has not returned repeat messages seeking comment.
Wyoming Valley West officials after the meeting dismissed allegations of wrongdoing in the school district. In July, agents seized records from administrative offices. In neighboring Wilkes-Barre Area and Pittston Area districts, board members and a superintendent were charged only after records were taken.
Press reports have indicated Bellas signed a plea deal with the U. S. Attorney's office. Eyewitness News has been unable to confirm this detail. It's said Bellas had intended to resign his full-time position with the redevelopment authority. His attorney on Tuesday told members of the media Bellas was not resigning. | |
