Bob Bolus Family Christmas Dinner
Bob Bolus Family Christmas Dinner - Thursday, December 25, 2008 at 5:37PM EST
People who would normally eat alone for Christmas had another option today.
Scranton business man Bob Bolus held a charity dinner for the 14th year in a row.
About 2 thousand people are expected to walk through the doors of Saint Lucy's Church today.
It’s all for the Bob Bolus family Christmas dinner.
It took a lot of work to prepare by volunteers.
Barbara Horrocks from Olyphant is enjoying every minute of it.
Horrocks says, "How wonderful to provide this for all of people that can't be with anyone. And this is just a beautiful testimony."
Horracks is one of nearly 2000 people that will eat at Saint Lucy's Church in Scranton .
This dinner is open to everyone, especially people who would have eaten alone.
People like John Polster
"Sitting home eating a sandwich is no fun on Christmas. It's a lot nicer coming here and having a nice turkey dinner," says Polster.
And this dinner took a lot of work to prepare.
Volunteers worked around the clock.
Since midnight Thursday, they've been cooked and pulled apart 125 turkeys.
But it's all worth it to Bob Bolus and his volunteers.
"I'm never going to look for a reason why I do it. I'm just happy that I'm able to do it and see the people in this area and surrounding communities be able to come somewhere and enjoy the Christmas spirit that ordinarily they would not have," says Bolus.
Volunteer Johanna Duffey of Peckville says, "I like the idea of doing something for somebody else. It just gives you, I was up at 10 after 5 this morning so excited I couldn't wait to get here."
And people couldn't wait to get to this dinner.
It started filling up early.
A sign that people here were ready to enjoy Christmas with new friends.
Bob Bolus owns a trucking company in Scranton .
On top of the 2 thousand dinners served, about 15 hundred were delivered. | |
