BUTLER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY -- Its' a story many will find upsetting. The body of a mutilated dog was found in Luzerne County. Some fear it may be connected to satanic worship.
It was discovered on Old Turnpike Road near Route 309 in Butler Township last week. It was skinned and its front paws cut off.
Corporal Bill Feissner of Butler Township showed Eyewitness News the area near an industrial park. An employee from the township sewer authority made the grisly discovery.
"It was a medium-sized dog, brown or black paws. Because it was skinned, itŐs difficult to ascertain what type of dog it was. We best believe it was a mix of some type," said Feissner.
This is an isolated area but is close to 309 and Interstae 80. It's conceivable that someone could easily drive down here and dump anything.
Feissner is concerned about cult activity. He has seen it before. "In the early 1990s we were faced with satanic worship but it really tapered off. There hasn't been anything recently of any type of worship so we're not exactly sure what caused this or what the underlying factors to this incident are."
We stopped by Mary's Restaurant about a mile from where the dog was found. It's been the talk of the township.
"It was very disturbing to hear about an animal getting mutilated like that, very disturbing," said owner Mary Marconi.
Mary Morrison added, "I think it was disgusting anybody who did it they need some help just not right."
