Broken Lift Strands Skiers For More Than 90 Minutes
Broken Lift Strands Skiers For More Than 90 Minutes - Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:30PM EST
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A problem with the ski lift had people stranded in the cold for more than 90 minutes Saturday evening.
Officials are calling the situation "minor" and no one was seriously hurt. Everyone was brought to safety after a back up motor was put in place. Ski Patrol Director Bob Dourand said, “These things happen at a ski area. We as a patrol are prepared to handle this type of emergency and we're just awfully sorry it happened."
Matt Cartwright of Moosic said, “The problem is you’re not moving around on a chair lift. You're dressed to be moving around and keeping warm."
Haley Perrone of Laflin said, “It doesn't look too convincing to go ski back down and go on it again. I'll probably just go home now and get warm."
All of the stranded riders were given free coffee and hot dogs. | |
